Reports early this morning say that Ronald Koeman has made a bid for his former player Cuco Martina from Southampton. Everton have offered the Saints £1.25m for the Curacao international.
The Blues lack of depth in that position has been exposed with Coleman’s ankle injury, with Mason Holgate, James McCarthy and even Tom Cleverley all taking turns at the spot.
Koeman had initially signed the player from Dutch club Jong Twente during his time at Southampton. Cedric Soares is the default starter at Saints, with new manager Claude Puel opting for Jeremy Pied as the backup over Martina.
Martina signed a two year deal last summer, and caught the eye with this stunning goal against Arsenal last season.
Reliable football writer Phil McNulty also confirmed Koeman’s interest, while adding that the Blues were still chasing Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez Martinez.
Everton close to deal for Southampton's Cuco Martina - cover for Seamus Coleman. Still pursuing interest in Deportivo striker Lucas.
