Koeman explains Galloway loan decision

Left back on loan to the Baggies for the season

Barnsley v Everton: Pre-Season Friendly

Everton manager Ronald Koeman spoke to evertontv to explain why he was comfortable sending left back Brendan Galloway out on loan for the season. The defender is expected to fill in for the injured Chris Brunt at West Bromwich Albion.

“What we like for young players is to give them the best way to improve.

“He is a player with a future at Everton but at the moment he is not playing for the first-team. It’s not good for young players to play every week with the Under-23s. We need to give them a platform to to play at the highest level.

“There was a possibility of [joining] West Brom. I know their manager very well. He asked me about Brendan and finally we took the decision to put him on loan because that will help the development of a young player.

“We can get him back a better player who can offer more competition to the rest of the defenders.”

Galloway is the fourth Everton player to go on loan this season, with Luke Garbutt (Wigan Athletic), Conor Grant (Ipswich Town) and Russell Griffiths (Cheltenham Town) also moving in temporary deals.
