Everton have reportedly turned down an a number of enquiries for James McCarthy and say the midfielder remains in Ronald Koeman's plans.

HITC Sport claims new Sunderland boss David Moyes as well as Swansea and Southampton have approached Everton about the midfielder's availability.

However, Everton have apparently rebuffed those advances and insist the 25-year-old is going nowhere.

McCarthy has been linked with a move away from Goodison this summer following the arrival of Idrissa Gueye from Aston Villa.

Despite the speculation McCarthy started for the Toffees against Tottenham on Saturday, though he was out of position at right wing-back.

The impressive performances of Gueye and Gareth Barry against Spurs suggest McCarthy won't be starting in the centre of midfield anytime soon though.

Should further midfield reinforcements arrive McCarthy may even push for a move himself, though Everton would likely demand a hefty fee.

McCarthy is currently tied to the club until 2020 after signing a new five-year deal in the summer of 2015.
