Erwin Koeman, Everton’s assistant head coach and older brother of Toffees head man Ronald Koeman told the Liverpool Echo on Sunday that “Ronald and the board are very busy with (transfers)”
So far, it has been a summer heavy on rumors for the Blues but light on actual signings. Since being appointed the manager on June 14, the only first team signing for Everton has been goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, a player who isn’t even the clear first choice netminder at this point.
Regardless of the moves off the field, the assistant Koeman said the coaching staff expects the players currently on the team should be ready when they open the Premier League season against Tottenham on August 13.
“We can talk about a lot of things,” Koeman said. “But in two weeks, the league starts and we have to be ready”
“Not one team in the Premier League is ready for the moment. In two weeks, the circus will start”
He also touched on how the team is dealing with the change of playing style with his brother now in charge.
“They are used to playing of the way of Martinez and now we have to play the way Ronald likes,” he said. “That is not always easy...Of course you have some players who start late. It takes time but we know in two weeks we have to perform.”
Things may start falling into place soon. More concrete rumors are swirling lately. It is seeming more and more likely that both Romelu Lukaku and John Stones make their exit, while some less expensive players like Idrissa Gueye and Ashley Williams come into the fold. As always, we will believe it when we see it.
