John Stones has told Everton he wants to leave the club and join Manchester City, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Stones is currently on an extended break following Euro 2016 but has reportedly told new Toffees boss Ronald Koeman that he wants to start pre-season at the Etihad Stadium.

With Stones due back from holiday next week Man City may seek to accelerate talks with Everton to seal a deal in the coming days.

Everton are believed to value Stones in the region of £50m and Koeman would be given all of the proceeds to spend on a replacement.

The Toffees have been linked with a number of defenders in recent weeks, most recently Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

It would be an undoubted blow to lose Stones given his immense potential and the effort the club put in to keep him away from the clutches of Chelsea last summer.

However, £50m is a decent return for a player who cost just £3m three years ago and the funds would significantly boost Koeman’s already sizeable transfer kitty.
