With a month to go in the League One season and Barnsley moving from relegation place to just outside the league one promotion playoff Everton have given the Tykes a big push to making a run for that spot. The 18 year old Callum Connolly plays at both fullback positions as well as in the midfield. He has a knack for scoring goals and has been capped for the U-19 England team four times so far.
Barnsley have only lost one game in their last 14 since the Christmas holiday and are out of the playoffs only by goal differential right now. Callum brings another attacking and defending asset that could help them reach promotion which would be a good result for them and a great experience for the youngster to be part of.
Connolly is only 18 years old and a bit blocked at the fullback position with Everton. His current contract carries him through the summer of 2017. It's unlikely he breaks into the squad next season with Leighton Baines, Bryan Oviedo, Brandon Galloway and Luke Garbutt all blocking his natural position of left back, but perhaps he could challenge for the right back spot with more time there during his loan. It might be interesting for the Everton scouts to see where Barnsley deploy him.
