Everton were embarrassingly flat at home as they hosted an Arsenal side that had been knocked out of two competitions in the last week. The Blues looked more than well-rested after playing last Saturday, in fact, they looked comatose for long periods of this game. Gareth Barry might receive a lot of flak from all quarters, but without him Everton were a rudderless dinghy caught up in the tumult of the Gunners vengeance.
In the end, fans will be surprised that Everton only lost by two in a game they were desperately outclassed. New owner Farhad Moshiri will have certainly seen enough after attending his second game at Goodison Park, where the Blues have now lost eight times this season.
Manager Roberto Martinez only used two of the subs at his disposal, with John Stones coming on for Muhamed Besic at halftime as the Blues went with a back-three for the second half. Gerard Deulofeu also came on for Ross Barkley.
