The final scoreline of 3-0 might have flattered Everton against Newcastle United, but the home side also wasted so many chances that fans can be forgiven for letting this slide. In addition, it seems like Lady Luck seems to really favor the Toffees especially against the Magpies. Earlier this season both sides had spurned scoring opportunities before Tom Cleverley scored the winner at St. James Park with the last touch of the game. Yesterday, Aleksandar Mitrovic missed when it seemed easier to score with the game still at 1-0, and that was the end for the visitors.

Aaron Lennon provided another livewire performance down the right wing, and fully deserved his goal. He was also pulled down in the box to earn the penalty for the second goal, and was in the eyes of many fans the Man of the Match. Ross Barkley was an attacking giant for most of the game, but even more so once Romelu Lukaku was pulled off at halftime. He scored two penalties on the day, the second being a delightful panenka that had the crowd roaring with delight.
