Everton v Newcastle United: Injury Report

There has been a late injury for Roberto Martinez to contend as the pressure begins to pile on the Catalan...

Roberto Martinez has revealed that Tim Howard is 50/50 for the game with Newcastle United after taking a knock in training.

Now, although losing your first choice 'keeper is a bad situation for most sides, for us it may actually help. Joel Robles has looked solid in the Cup games recently, and everyone knows how terrible Howard has been for the most part over the last 18 months - outside of one game against Manchester City last month and a couple of others.

It does mean that we have to hope that Robles doesn't now pick up a problem, with uncapped Russell Griffiths the likely man to be third choice.

Away from the goalkeeper, Kevin Mirallas and Muhamed Besic are unavailable for the Magpies' visit. This should mean James McCarthy and Gerard Deulofeu continue in the league starting XI, especially as new signing Oumar Niasse won't be able to play until the weekend.

Meanwhile, Newcastle may be able to count on Jack Colback and Paul Dummet if they recover from their respective injuries in time. They can also add new signing Andros Townsend to the squad, but may have to wait for Seydou Doumbia to get a visa before playing (as we are with Niasse).
