Everton's 1-1 draw against Manchester United last weekend earned the team a valuable point after a string of disappointing results. The draw earned our writers a fair number of points in the writer prediction league as well!
After accruing only five points over the last two matches, our writers stepped up their game against United last weekend, creating a tighter-than-ever writer prediction league table. The results from that match are below, with correct guesses in bold.
Writer | Opener (1) | MOTM (1) | Winner (2) | Score (2) |
Adam | Juan Mata | Maarten Stekelenburg | United | 2-0 |
Brian | Paul Pogba | Gareth Barry | Draw | 2-2 |
Calvin | Zlatan Ibrahimovic | Stekelenburg | United | 2-1 |
Darren | Ibrahimovic | Seamus Coleman | Draw | 2-2 |
Matt | Pogba | Barry | United | 3-1 |
Mike | Ibrahimovic | Idrissa Gueye | United | 3-1 |
Scott | Mata | Romelu Lukaku | United | 3-1 |
Sean | Ibrahimovic | Stekelenburg | Everton | 2-1 |
Tom | Lukaku | Lukaku | Everton | 2-0 |
Tyler | Lukaku | Stekelenburg | Draw |
1-1 |
Tyler was the big winner of the weekend, picking up four points for correctly picking the match's final scoreline. Darren picked up three points, while Brian and Mike picked up two points. Sean and Calvin each walked away with a point as well.
With our writers picking up various points from all four categories, we had a fair amount of movement in the standings this week.
Writer | Points |
Adam | 24 |
Calvin | 24 |
Tyler | 24 |
Darren | 23 |
Sean | 22 |
Tom | 22 |
Mike | 21 |
Scott | 20 |
Brian | 18 |
Matt | 13 |
Calvin and Tyler both closed the gap on me at the top of the table, creating a three-way tie for first. Darren's solid week propelled him to just one point off the pace, while Sean and Tom are both two points off. Mike, Brian, and Scott are between three and six points out of first, while poor Matt is all alone very much in last place.
This week, the Toffees travel to 11th-place Watford, looking to pick up valuable away points. Watford's results over the last two months have been a mixed bag -- they have wins against Hull City and Leicester City, but a 6-1 loss at Liverpool and a 3-1 loss at West Brom.
In a display of confidence that appears slightly out of place given the Toffees recent struggles, RBM's writers have made the following picks for the match.
Writer | Opener (1) | MOTM (1) | Winner (2) | Score (2) |
Adam | Troy Deeney | Gueye | Draw | 1-1 |
Brian | Lukaku | Barry | Draw | 2-2 |
Calvin | Deeney | Gueye | Everton | 2-1 |
Darren | Kevin Mirallas | Coleman | Everton | 2-1 |
Matt | Deeney | Gueye | Everton | 2-1 |
Mike | Lukaku | Lukaku | Everton | 1-0 |
Scott | Lukaku | Gueye | Everton | 2-1 |
Sean | Lukaku | Mirallas | Everton | 2-0 |
Tom | Mirallas | Gueye | Everton | 2-0 |
Tyler | Lukaku | Gueye | Everton | 2-0 |
8 of 10 RBM writers are predicting a victory for Everton, despite the fact the Toffees have one win in their last 10 matches in all competitions. Brian and I are the lone dissenters, with each of us predicting a draw.
50% of us foresee Lukaku getting on the board first, with Troy Deeney receiving three votes and Kevin Mirallas receiving the last two.
Idrissa Gueye received 60% of the man-of-the-match votes, with Lukaku, Mirallas, Coleman, and Barry comprising the other votes.
