This is getting quite tiresome isn’t it? Yet another Everton current player or target is also being linked with Tottenham Hotspur? You would think a rich man like Daniel Levy could afford to shell out a few bucks for his own scouting department.
The latest rumors are that Everton’s Ross Barkley is now being linked with a move to London. Think about that for a second will you - the once-starlet, who is struggling to find consistency and doesn’t even command a regular spot in the Everton midfield, is now being mooted for a move to Totten-midfielders-ham where he will be at the bottom of a depth chart consisting of Christian Erikssen, Delle Alli, Josh Onomah, Song Heung-min, Mousa Dembele, Moussa Sissoko, Victor Wanyama and possibly even Harry Winks and Tom Carroll.
While Barkley has not necessarily been a favourite of Ronald Koeman in his short time here, if young Ross (can we call him that? Koeman doesn’t think we should call him young anymore) thinks it will be better for his footballing future to move to Spurs to languish on the deep bench, then good luck to you lad.
Everton have also been heavily linked with two Manchester United players recently - Koeman’s fellow Dutchman Memphis Depay, and his former midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. Well well, guess which Premier League club nicknamed the Lilywhites are also being rumoured to be chasing the same two players. Really now?
The Blues already have a bad taste in their mouths regarding Spurs after the runaround that Sissoko led them on on transfer deadline day at the beginning of the season, so this latest bit of news about Tottenham’s interest in Everton players and targets is not going to go down well with the fanbase.
However, we do need to remember, until Everton start playing better and get into Europe, North London remains a more promising destination and that is something we will just have to deal with.
