Everton are reported to be interested in Argentine midfielder Ever Banega. Excuse the deja vu of course, because the club has been linked with him in the summer ahead of the 2014-15 season, and then again about a month ago.
Banega was only signed by Inter Milan last summer, but hasn’t settled in well. The fact that the Nerazzuri themselves are on their third manager in six months is also partly responsible. After Roberto Mancini’s departure over the summer, Frank de Boer stepped in but only lasted a few months before he was relieved of his duties and currently Stefano Pioli has taken over.
Multiple media sources are now claiming that the player will be allowed to leave in the upcoming January transfer window as Pioli looks to make his own mark on the side. Several teams from France and Spain, in addition to the Toffees, are said to be keen on 28-year-old, with a fee of £8m said to be the asking price.
With Ross Barkley’s struggles in controlling games and injecting creativity, Banega could be the right person to take command of the midfield and add the physcial element that Koeman feels the team is desperately lacking.
