Everton were beaten soundly yesterday at Chelsea as the players had no response to their hosts’ excellent performance. After the game, manager Ronald Koeman did not mince any words.

"It's a big lesson for everybody today. Chelsea showed us a very high level of football in every aspect.

"How aggressive you need to play, quality on the ball, winning second balls, there was a big difference. I did not expect that difference on the pitch but it happened.

"It's good for everybody to see; quality, technical players, how they work, run and press. We can learn from that and, finally, it's my job to change the team or the players if I think I need to."

Koeman went on to compliment Chelsea, who played impeccably in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation.

"They score a lot, don't concede, which are reasons enough for them that's it the best way for them. Some key players in that team are showing their highest level of football.

"I have never seen a team so strong playing out of their system, it's a very difficult system to play against, the movement of Hazard, [Diego] Costa, Pedro…the manager has brought a winning mentality to the players.

"They look very hungry every game and if they keep going they will fight for the title."

With the international break coming up, Koeman is keen to put this result behind him.

"Everybody is very disappointed, but it's only three points. But of course we need to react and show today was not our level, that we can be better."
