Ronald Koeman left the consistently overachieving Saints over the summer in favor of a new challenge and a, somewhat, higher profile gig. It was an odd saga that saw the gaffer struggle with his decision on whether to stick with Southampton or move onto Everton. You know the outcome, but there could still be some hurt feelings at his old team, making for what should be a passionate match on Sunday.
Southampton has had the tougher season so far. They sit at 11th in the Premier League, looking up at 7th-place Everton. However, the Saints are fighting on three fronts (Prem, Europa League, EFL Cup) and just dropped a road match to Sparta Prauge 1-0 on Thursday. This could be a tired side that Everton will really want to beat.
The Blues have just one competition to focus on: the Premier League. So far, they have been underwhelming, but still find themselves within striking distance of European competition and have had eight days to prepare.
Come on, you Blues!!
