Everton beat West Ham United in the Sunday afternoon game and stayed in the top six. In a game that West Ham controlled in the first half, the Blues defence held strong and then were ruthless with the chances they got in the beginning of the second. Goals from Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley sealed the 2-0 win.
The Toffees had 49% possession, with seventeen shots, of which six were on goal. West Ham had thirteen shots, with three on goal. Bryan Oviedo and Idrissa Gueye received bookings, with the yellow card being the midfielder’s fifth which will result with him missing the next game away at Chelsea.
Maarten Stekelenburg was pulled out before the game after failing a fitness test, with Joel Robles, last year’s starter, getting the nod. Robles was generally good between the sticks, making a couple of stellar saves.
The other change to the starting lineup was captain Phil Jagielka dropping to the bench and Ramiro Funes Mori stepping in and doing well.
Here are the Match of the Day extended highlights from the game.
