Everton to Face Bid for Romelu Lukaku This Summer

Would Everton be willing to part with him this summer?

The Mirror is reporting that Louis Van Gaal is interested in Romelu Lukaku, but doesn't feel that he can pry the striker away during the January window. For someone fighting for his future with the Red Devils I find this stance a bit pragmatic and probably not entirely true.

Manchester United has had a tough time scoring goals this year and sits nine points back of the league leaders Arsenal. With only 24 goals in 20 games played during league play they fall behind ten other teams in that statistic. It's highly unlikely they don't make a push for at least one big splash this window.

Lukaku would fit that bill, but Martinez would be hard pressed to find a talent anywhere near Lukaku's even with £40 million in his pocket. His commitment to maintaining the starting squad is surely going to be tested and I wouldn't be surprised if LVG is the first to test it.

Manchester United is also expected to put pressure on Everton for the services of John Stones. They will not be the only ones competing though as Chelsea is sure to return. I want to believe Martinez will maintain this team, but at what point does he break or the board break for him?
