In news that seems ludicrous in every sense, the Liverpool Echo reports that bookies are placing Everton as third best odds to have Wayne Rooney by the start of next season. The leaders currently are staying at Manchester United and signing with Chelsea.
That said a betting site going with 8/1 odds that Rooney plays for Everton by next season is pretty impressive. That leads teams like PSG, Arsenal and any Chinese Super League team.
All things being equal I can't imagine Rooney wouldn't be back at Everton, but we all know this isn't the case. Rooney is making £300,000 a week at Manchester United and there is no chance Everton can even think of more than half that salary. Unless he takes a considerable pay cut, United pays part of his salary or Everton raise funds by selling someone like John Stones this seems like another impossible move.
So why would a team desperate for any way to solidify the back line and keeper spot sell it's biggest asset right now to bring in a 30 year old striker? That said if Rooney was playing in this squad as it stands and all that changed was Arouna Kone being dropped to the bench I wouldn't complain a bit.
