Roberto Martinez has come out and said that he would like to add another three players before the transfer window shuts at the end of this month, identifying a central defender, a playmaker and a striker as the positions of need.
Now Everton are being linked with Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri who has been looking to get out of Inter Milan. Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is now in charge at San Siro and has been unimpressed by the player who came over from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window.
Shaqiri was previously linked with Schalke in Germany and Stoke City in the Premier League earlier this summer. Inter were looking to cut their losses on the player with a £12m deal from Stoke, but the 23-year-old rejected the transfer. Now the Italian side are talking to the Blues into taking Shaqiri on a season-long loan.
The Toffees are also rumored to be in talks with Argentinian outfit River Plate for central defender Ramiro Funes Mori. The 24-year-old has been a key part of the revival at the Buenos Aires-based club, and has been capped by the national side as well. Mori is left-footed and has played at left back as well, a position that Everton find themselves needing some cover on with Leighton Baines and Luke Garbutt both injured and Martinez prefering to play Bryan Oviedo further upfront.
