Everton will attempt to avoid a cup upset when they travel to League One Barnsley on Wednesday evening in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

Most of the pre-match attention has been on John Stones, and not just because Barnsley is the club where he started his career.

The 22-year-old handed in a transfer request earlier this week in the wake of interest from Chelsea, with a deal worth in the region of £40m looking increasingly likely.

Despite the speculation, Stones is named in the starting line-up for tonight's game, though Roberto Martinez has made a number of changes.

Youngster Matthew Pennington makes his full debut at right-back while Bryan Oviedo makes his first start since February at left-back. There are also starts for Joel Robles, Kevin Mirallas, Muhamed Besic and Aiden McGeady,

A defeat at Oakwell therefore would only serve to increase the pressure on the club's hierarchy at a time where fan frustration is near boiling point anyway.

The team is certainly good enough on paper to negotiate their way past the League One side, but the presence of live TV cameras shows that plenty are tipping this game to produce a shock.
