Late Callum Elder goal holds young Blues to a single point

Everton Under-21s looked to be heading towards their first three points of the Barclays U21 Premier League until Leicester City scored late on at the King Power Stadium on Monday evening.

The young Blues had a strong first half in the East Midlands rain, and came close a couple of times before Conor Grant’s opener 38 minutes in.

The visitors looked to have doubled their advantage shortly after the restart, but Sam Byrne’s effort was voided by an offside flag.

Leicester had chances to even things up themselves, hitting the post and firing just wide of Mateusz Hewelt’s goal on a number of occasions.

And they finally got their reward after Callum Elder rifled the ball home with a little under ten minutes remaining.

It is Everton’s second consecutive stalemate after coming from three goals down to draw against Liverpool last Wednesday in the mini-derby.

There were plenty of positives that David Unsworth’s men can take from the game. Next up: Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League International Cup.
