The Blues have been quiet so far this summer and are currently the Premier League's lowest spenders, with just Gerard Deulofeu and Tom Cleverley their only recruits so far.
And Martinez has admitted he is looking to add two or three new recruits, with the centre-half, centre forward and number 10 positions key among his thinking.
"We know we need two to three new players and we are going to make sure we get the right ones.
"We are looking for that area [up front], the number 10 position, and I think we need a centre-half; the three areas are quite clear."
"I do feel we need to use the full window and try to bring the right people. We have got a clear idea of what we want to do."
While it is nice to see Martinez acknowledging the need for more players Everton this season, though it does bring into question why they have left it so late to sign more for the squad.
In most need of additions is arguably centre back, with Phil Jagielka and John Stones the only recognised senior central defenders at the minute.
Similarly Arouna Kone does not look like a capable replacement for Romelu Lukaku should he spend an extended period on the treatment table while Ross Barkley also doesn't look like a true number 10.
That number 10 position will arguably be the hardest to recruit for though, with them being in short supply and every side desperate for that type of player in their squad.
So, who the Blues will target is a difficult question, with there not being many quality players available for prices they would be willing to pay. Either way, it will be interesting to see how the rest of this transfer window pans out after Martinez's latest comments.
