Young defender linked with loan move to Premier League rival

Garbutt set for spell away from Goodison Park next season

The ink is barely dry on his new contract but Luke Garbutt has already been linked with a move away from Everton - on a temporary basis.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough year last season, making 10 appearances in all competitions, but knows he is still very much second choice left-back behind Leighton Baines.

That led the Garbutt questioning his future at the club and with his contract expiring on July 1st he was left out of the squad for the final two games of the season.

Thankfully the England Under-21 international instead opted to sign a new five-year deal, though he is expected to spend next season out on-loan to gain more experience.

One possible destination could be Aston Villa, with local news reports suggesting boss Tim Sherwood is keen on bringing Garbutt to last season's FA Cup finalists on a season-long loan.

Newly-promoted Bournemouth have also been linked with a move for Garbutt but that now seems unlikely after they splashed out £8million for Ipswich left-back Tyrone Mings.
