Luke Garbutt Set To Sign New Everton Deal

After weeks of uncertainty, it appears that Everton defender Luke Garbutt will return to Finch Farm for the 2015-2016 season by signing a new deal in the coming weeks. Several reports had surfaced over the past few weeks indicating the 22-year old left back would move on from Goodison Park after he struggled to break into the squad over the past few seasons.

For whatever reason, the England youngster decided to spurn an offer from Swansea City among others to remain at the club. Though rumors on terms have not been mentioned, it does appear that Garbutt will spend the upcoming season on loan to gain experience. This should allow the youngster to compete with Leighton Baines, who turns 31 at the end of this year, for the starting left back spot ahead of the 2016-2017 season.

Assuming this news becomes official, it is an excellent move by Roberto Martinez. Keeping Garbutt will give Everton some excellent youth in the defense, always important as we look towards the future.

Now Martinez will have to turn his eye to the midfield, perhaps the biggest task for him this summer.
