Roberto Martinez looking abroad for a new number 10

The Everton manager says he is looking abroad as there are no British options at present.

Roberto Martinez will be looking abroad this summer as he tries to find himself another number 10, according his comments in the Liverpool Echo.

The manager admits he is looking for another player in the position, likely to be a backup to Ross Barkley, and says he has already drawn up a list of targets.

However, he does say that he has been scouting players across Europe, as there are no homegrown talents that fit the bill at this moment in time.

"It is difficult to find an English No10 because the upbringing is very, very different," Martinez said.

"But it is true that if you look at every single team in the Premier League unfortunately, that player is someone who has had that upbringing abroad."

Who Martinez will target however, remains to be seen. With Everton's well publicised lack of spending, it is unlikely a bigger name will be arriving at Goodison Park anytime soon.

His comments however, do suggest a move for Tom Cleverley may not be as much a certainty as expected, while it does also slightly bring into question Ross Barkley's role at the club as well.

An interesting summer awaits it seems.
