Roberto Martinez may have a lot to thank Aaron Lennon for after his goal helped Everton to beat QPR.
In a scrappy game the Toffees rarely looked the better side, and the Rs probably deserved to draw the fixture. Luckily though, the Tottenham loanee came through for the Blues after Seamus Coleman had put us in front only to be pegged back late on.
The winger's goal still could have been in vain had Adel Taarabt put away his chance in the dying minutes. As it was he hit the post, and Martinez may finally be able to breathe a bit more easily. This is especially important the day after graffiti was found on Goodison Park calling for the Catalan to be sacked.
While Lennon's goal was on the scrappy side, Coleman's was anything but. A great finish from a tight angle after a counter attack involving a good pass from Leon Osman. The return of the diminutive midfielder seems to have coincided with some better results.
However, at the same time our terrible defending was shown up again in the London club's goal. The ball was bouncing around in the box for far too long after a corner, and we need to improve this if we are to do anything next season. A new centre-back may be the best way to do this.
What did you think of the match? Can we start to breathe a little more easily?
