It was announced today that Everton will take place in the 2015 Barclays Asia Trophy this summer in Singapore. The Toffees compete against Arsenal, Stoke and the Singapore Select XI in a four team knock out tournament.
The tournament, which will take place on July 15th and 18th, is held every two years and will be a critical part of Everton's preseason. This will be a good opportunity for the Toffees to get some game time against two of their Premier league opponents, in addition to any other preseason matches against foreign clubs.
Everton last participated in this tournament in 2005 when they were joined by Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers and the Thailand National Team. The Toffees went without a win in the prior tournament, losing to the Thai National Team and Manchester City in penalty kicks. To give some added perspective on how long ago this was, assistant coach Duncan Ferguson was one of the Everton players who was selected to take a penalty kick in the match against Manchester City.
