Everton had done all but throw the kitchen-sink at the Crystal Palace goal. It was looking like one of those games where the Blues had dominated possession, created the lion's share of chances and yet hadn't gotten the breakthrough. And then as we all feared, Crystal Palace scored from poor marking at a setpiece. This was the recurring nightmare we've had the last two times the Toffees have hosted the Eagles.
Palace seem to enjoy playing on Merseyside, repeatedly getting good results against both Everton and Liverpool. With resolute defending (more commonly known as 'parking the bus'), they clogged the passing lanes in midfield and defence, pushing the Blues to resort to crossing the ball in the box, which also played right into the visitors' hands (heads actually).
Here are the highlights from the game, in which Palace's best player was the woodwork, denying the Toffees no fewer than three times. It was just that kind of night.
