The Merseyside Police Department have apologized and announced that an investigation is underway after the official Twitter account made an attempt at a humorous response to an offensive tweet to begin with.
The spokesperson went back on the official Twitter a few minutes later as the outrage took off.

Various sections of the population had criticized the department for the gaffe, but the person behind the tweets was not identified.
