Everton Injuries
Everton look set to get back two of their most important defenders, John Stones and Seamus Coleman. Both players missed Monday's win against West Brom, and are considered game time decisions. Given the importance of this match, it is likely that both players will get the start if they are close to 100%. Muhamed Besic is likely to be a late decision as well, but even if healthy the midfielder would at most be a bench player. He was impressive in his lone start this season, but he still sits behind Gareth Barry on the depth chart. Tom Cleverley and Leighton Baines will definitely be out for the Merseyside Derby, but may return as soon as next week as the Toffees take on Manchester United. Tony Hibbert and Steven Pienaar continue to suffer from long term injuries and there seems to be no word as to when the duo will return to match fitness.
Liverpool Injuries
Liverpool have also been bitten by the injury bug, and will likely be without several key players this week. New signing Roberto Firmino is suffering from a back injury and is all but guaranteed to miss the match. Firmino will be joined by defender Dejan Lovren who will also miss the match with an ankle injury. Christian Benteke will face a late fitness test as he battles back from a hamstring injury. The Belgian striker could prove to be a serious threat if included in the lineup, especially given Everton's injuries in defense. Captain Jordan Henderson will miss the Merseyside Derby and probably all matches in October due to a broken foot. All in all, good news for Everton as the Reds will be without several key players.
