Everton defensive midfielder James McCarthy, lately the subject of a rumored move to Manchester United or Arsenal, is now reportedly being watched closely by Tottenham Hotspur, according to Daily Mail and other sources.

Arsenal were previously interested in the Republic of Ireland international, but now it appears that McCarthy could be headed to another club in North London, if Spurs are willing to pay the price. It was reported that Arsenal would pay up to £20 million for McCarthy, but that Everton want as much as £25 million for the Irishman.

It is well-known that McCarthy would like a revised contract, which he has yet to receive from the Blues. He is currently on a five-year deal with Everton, after he was purchased from Wigan for £13 million.

McCarthy is currently nursing a recurring hamstring injury and did not travel with the team for the loss at Hull City.
