Everton at Liverpool: Live Gamethread

First Merseyside Derby of the year!

Alex Livesey

This fixture last year did not go so well for the Blues. In fact, Everton have not won at Liverpool in fifteen years, as the red half of the city will gleefully recall. Both teams have had shoddy defending this season as they find themselves in the lower regions of the table, and will have to buckle down and do well there to come away with the three points today.

Roberto Martinez has maintained his positivity, claiming the defence is not as big a problem as it has appeared, and instead will just need some time to work out the issues. The Toffees have not been shy in front of goal either, scoring two or more in every Premier League fixture so far. This kind of bang-bang football is unheard of in the Blues history, but will they able to maintain that scoring rate as they go to one of their most haunted arenas in recent times?

Liverpool have had awful defending since last season, and the influx of new players has done little to improve that situation. Brendan Rodgers can go on and on until he is blue in the face (see what I did there?) about how his side needs time to gel, but if they don't fix the team any time soon, they'll find themselves chasing the dust of teams like Chelsea.
