Everton play the away leg of the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Saturday. Manager Roberto Martinez gave an update on the squad's injuries at his press conference on Thursday afternoon.

Right-back Seamus Coleman suffered a head injury against Wolfsburg last Thursday, while midfielder Steven Pienaar is recovering from a quad injury sustained against Arsenal over a month ago. Martinez has not ruled out returns for either player, but both will undergo fitness tests before Saturday's clash. Here is what Martinez had to say about Coleman and Pienaar in Saturday's press conference:

"Steven Pienaar is recovering really well and we are going to assess him over the next few days, it's the same with Seamus. Both are in the same situation where it is too early to tell if they are going to be fit for the weekend."

The manager commented on the fitness of Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo after both played against Swansea on Tuesday:

"I consider Bryan Oviedo and Darron Gibson fully fit after getting through the game on Tuesday."

Martinez also gave an update on the recent subject of transfer rumors, Ross Barkley:

"He's doing well. He's starting to run which is something we didn't expect. He's well ahead of where we're expecting and that's a positive."
