Everton looking to cover for injured Steven Pienaar

South African’s groin injury the biggest transfer deadline day priority

It is being widely reported that Roberto Martinez’s biggest priority before the close of the transfer window is to cover the injured Steven Pienaar.

The South African was ruled out of Saturday’s game against Chelsea after suffering a groin injury inside the first 10 minutes the week before against Arsenal.

The extent of the left-midfielder’s injury is unknown and now it is being reported that Everton’s main concern before the close of the window is to sign a player to cover Pienaar’s absence.

The Liverpool Echo’s Greg O’Keeffe tweeted this morning; "I know Martinez feels he doesn’t have enough options on left of midfield & could look to find cover for Steven Pienaar #EFC #Deadlineday"

And then went on to tweet; "When I say cover for Pienaar I also mean another player with his qualities rather than just a left sided midfielder per se #EFC"
