Current Players: Tim Howard, age 35, Number 24; Joel Robles, age 24, Number 1.
Key Departures: None.
Arrivals: None.
Returning Players: Tim Howard comes back from his post-World Cup vacation ready to assume his rightful place between the posts. The United States international had an excellent World Cup, including a record-breaking 16 saves against Belgium in the Round of 16.
Howard signed an extension with Everton in April of this year, inking him until 2018. He has said he would like to retire with the club.
Joel Robles returns after signing a five-year deal with Roberto Martinez and Co. in 2013. The promising young veteran of Atletico Madrid and Wigan again assumes the backup role.
Tactics: With 37 league starts for the 2013-14 campaign and 36 the season before, look for Tim Howard to make the vast majority of starts in the league. Howard will hope strong play from both the experienced Sylvain Distin and captain Phil Jagielka will limit chances on his goal.
Summary: Martinez will look for Howard to continue his solid and consistent play into the 2014-15 season. Barring injury or suspension, he is the starter for every league game. But with League Cup, FA Cup, and Europa League fixtures all on the schedule, Robles will make his fair share of appearances as well.
