Reports in several newspapers are stating that Everton are trying to secure a loan deal for Sunderland's Adam Johnson.
The Journal is reporting that the Northeast club are seeking to reduce their wage bill for next season, a situation that has left Johnson vulnerable.
However, Everton aren't keen on a permanent transfer and would prefer to bring him in on loan first, potentially with a view to a permanent move should it be a success.
Reports suggest that Sunderland manager Gus Poyet feels otherwise though as he wouldn't be keen to lend Johnson to a Premier League rival, preferring to recoup some of the £10mil they paid Manchester City for his services.
Johnson was outstanding at times last year, almost singlehandedly keeping Sunderland up at one point. More often than not though, he goes missing in games and has no effect whatsoever.
However, his talent has always been evident and he's never really had a platform to perform on. With a manager like Martinez behind him, he's the type of player who could really flourish at Goodison Park. Interestingly, Squawka has compared him and Gerard Delofeu last season, and it makes interesting reading. You can see that here.
