The football silly season is still about, despite the World Cup attracting everybody’s interest elsewhere.
The latest and oddest rumour to come out of the block is from talkSPORT, who are claiming that Everton may make a move for former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o.
The 33 year old is currently a free agent after his contract expired at the end of the season and so would be available on a free, but is first heading to the World Cup with Cameroon before agreeing any move. He reportedly has a host of clubs including Monaco and Galatasary chasing his signature.
With Everton needing to replace the (for now) departed Romelu Lukaku, Eto’o has reportedly became a target. Having been on such high wages at Chelsea, it is unlikely the Blues would be able to afford the striker, with clubs such as Monaco a more likely destination.
There is also the question of whether Everton would want to sign a player who will be 34 next year, and hardly set the world alight at Stamford Bridge last year. However, it can be argued that his experience could prove vital.
We’ll wait to see if anything comes of this one.
Do you think Everton should sign Samuel Eto’o?
