Although Greg O'Keefe tweeted yesterday saying that Everton were definitely not in for Caulker, the Express are today saying the Blues are set to beat Arsenal, Liverpool and even Swansea to the defender's signature.
This rumour initially started on the website of Sky Sports Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, who claimed Everton were close to confirming the signing of the former Tottenham man.
According to the report in the Express, Caulker will be able to leave Cardiff for £8m thanks to a clause in his contract meaning he would represent good value for Everton. Martinez is keen to bring in cover for the ageing Sylvain Distin, despite John Stones impressing last year and Shane Duffy reportedly set to be given more game time next year.
While I would not be unhappy to see Caulker come to Everton, I question the legitimacy of this one. As has been pointed out, the club already have two excellent right-footed defenders on their books and £8m could be better spent elsewhere.
