Everton In Lead For Barcelona Winger

Stu Forster

The success of Gerard Deulofeu's loan from Barcelona has prompted rumors of other Barca players moving to Goodison. Reports have surfaced this morning that another winger could be headed to Goodison Park next season.

According to Football Direct News, winger Issac Cuenca is looking to move away from Barcelona after finding playing time difficult to come by. The 22-year old bounced around Spain during his youth career, including 2 spells at Barcelona. He finally joined the senior side at Barcelona in 2010, and  made his debut in 2011.

At the end of 2011 he was finally promoted to the first team and signed a contract keeping him at the club until 2015. Sadly playing time did not materialize, he has 16 appearances for Barcelona since.

After recovering from a knee injury, Cuenca moved to Ajax on a 6 month loan in early 2013. He featured for the famous Dutch side for only 3 matches before suffering another knee injury. He has yet to play for Barcelona this season.

At first glance Cuenca seems a bit underwhelming. His quick promotion to the senior side means he lacks a lot of in game experience. It is possible he wouldn't have the impact that team mate Gerard Deulofeu has had at Everton, but with the Toffees surplus of wingers it would not devastate the club if he performed poorly.

With rumors that Deulofeu may be returning to Goodison next year, Evertonians could see both wings manned by Barcelona youngsters. Not a bad thing to think about.
