Everton to host West Ham in FA Cup third round

Everton have been handed a home tie in the third round of the FA Cup against Premier League side West Ham United.

A game against familiar opponents does not perhaps carry the magic of a game against lower league opposition - the likes of Dover, Southport and Blyth Spartans were in the draw - but at least we are at home.

The last time Everton played the Hammers in the FA Cup was a quarter-final defeat at Upton Park in 1991, the same year of the famous 4-4 with Liverpool in the previous round. The last cup meeting was in the League Cup quarter-final in 2007, Everton winning 2-1 at Upton Park on that occasion.

The game will also be a repeat of the league fixture just a fortnight ago, with Romelu Lukaku and Leon Osman scoring in a 2-1 win.

There is romance to be found elsewhere in the draw, with Liverpool traveling to League Two AFC Wimbledon, while the winner of Accrington and Yeovil replay will host Man Utd.

Nearby Southport meanwhile, in the third round for the first time since 1998, were drawn away to Championship club Derby.
