Goal.com are reporting that Everton could look to sign Celtic defender Virgil Van Dijk in January.

According to the report, both Everton and Sunderland have contacted the Scottish champions over the defender ahead of the January transfer window.

The Scottish side would be loathe to lose one of their star men, although the report claims that they have accepted he will be moving on sooner rather than later. The source claims that they would look for between £8m and £10m for his services.

The 23 year old has been impressive since joining from FC Groningen in 2013 and has been a part of the most recent Netherlands squads. Given Everton's noticeable defensive issues so far this season, there could be substance to the rumours, although the rumoured price tag could prove a stumbling block.
