Everton had a disappointing outing over the weekend, losing away to Tottenham Hotspur who subsequently leapfrogged over the Blues. Today is a chance to make up for that as Hull City come to Goodison. Pretty much everyone around Everton won yesterday, so anything less than three points this evening would be disastrous.

Per Roberto Martinez who gave an injury update yesterday morning, James McCarthy remains out. This is critical as the Toffees did not look themselves without the Irishman patroling in the middle of the park. Gareth Barry also looked unfit and was quite poor on the day. Needless to say, the chances of Everton winning a game when McCarthy doesn't play and Barry is off-colour are close to infinitesimal. On the good news front though, Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo both played in the U-21 game on Monday, and both potted goals too.

Steve Bruce has lost four straight games as manager at Hull City and will be keen to avoid an embarrassing fifth loss on a trot. He has already said he will be using midfielder Tom Huddlestone after leaving him out of the squad over the weekend.
