Everton vs Swansea City: Live Gamethread

Roberto and his boys should be itching for payback

Paul Thomas

At the beginning of the season when Everton were struggling to get in their groove, they pulled an early trip to Wales in the Capital One Cup draw. The Blues were thoroughly outplayed by Swansea City and dumped out of the tournament once known as the League Cup, a trophy that has always eluded the Toffees and it wasn't to be this year either. Unfortunately for the Swans, they were promptly knocked out in the next round by a mediocre Liverpool side who scored a couple of late goals to clinch the game.

All that will be put aside on Saturday though, when the battle for three points in the Premier League will ensue. The Swans are in sixth place with fourteen points while Everton are ninth, two points behind. Against all the odds, Swansea manager Garry Monk has kept his side competitive, and as long as striker Wilfried Bony keeps firing, the Swans will maintain high their high ranking in the table. The Blues have slowly been recovering from their injury woes and should name a strong squad for this game, but Roberto Martinez will also have an eye on Thursday when they host OSC Lille in the Europa League.

Everton's loss to Swansea in the Capital One Cup was their first ever to the Welsh side, so swift vengeance will be on the Blues' minds at Goodison on Saturday. Lineups will be posted here as soon as we get them.

Everton XI - Howard, Baines, Coleman, Jagielka, Alcaraz, Barry, McCarthy, McGeady, Barkley, Naismith, Eto'o.

Swansea City XI - Fabianski, Taylor, Fernandez, Williams (c), Rangel, Shelvey, Ki, Sigurdsson, Montero, Routledge, Bony.
