Well this hasn't been the start that we had all hoped for. Seven matches into the Premier League campaign and the Blues are at the bottom of the table with a 1-3-3- record. Roberto Martinez's second season at the helm had not gone as expected considering that Everton were supposed to be in the hunt to challenge for a Champions League spot throughout the season. Undoubtedly most of the issues with the club have been related to injuries to many of the first team's key actors. There were also several new additions to the team that have taken time to get acquainted with the system. And the World Cup over the summer did not help things as several of the club's internationals were not available for summer training sessions. With the team seemingly needing a spark, there is already speculation of new arrivals in the winter transfer window.
We previously reported that Everton are rumored to be interested in a loan deal for Juventus' Kwadwo Asamoah. Some other new/familiar names have come up as potential transfers to Merseyside. Most interesting is Marouane Fellaini from Manchester United. United have been trying to pry Seamus Coleman away from the Blues for a while now and they are contemplating offering Fellaini back to the club as part of a package deal for Coleman. Recall that Fellaini was sold to the Red Devils for £27.5 last year. Roberto Martinez felt at the time that the midfield he was installing was better suited to a different style of player. When United panicked at the end of the transfer deadline, they paid a hefty fee for David Moyes' old players.
Fellaini has not been able to find a consistent place in the squad since his arrival and he has seen even less playing time under new boss Louis Van Gaal. Over this past transfer window, Fellaini was linked with several clubs and an exit seems imminent at some point. He is definitely a talented player, but it is important for him to find a home with a team that plays a style of football for suited to his abilities. Martinez already decided that Fellaini was expendable once so it's unlikely that we will see him return to Everton. However, United are going to continue to try and unload him and get the most value back - although they will probably never recoup the fee that they paid. Until Fellaini is moved, the media will probably continue to push rumors of a return to Everton.
Tell us you thoughts on this particular rumor. Do you wish to see the return of the ‘fro or should he ply his trade elsewhere?
