The Croatian striker has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Tigers and goes with good wishes from the majority of Evertonians, who have been left puzzled as to how his form dissipated so quickly.
Jelavic scored 11 goals in his first 16 games for the club and we all thought we had finally found the kind of ruthless goalscorer the side has lacked for a generation.
Sadly his form and confidence has completely deserted him, with his double strike against QPR his first goals in any competition since March.
Quite how Jelavic lost his touch so dramatically I doubt we will ever know, but he has joined the likes of James Beattie, Andy Johnson and Yakubu on the list of failed forwards at Goodison.
The signing of Romelu Lukaku last summer pushed Jelavic to the sidelines and with a World Cup coming up at the end of the season, a move away seemed inevitable.
A transfer is perhaps the only way Jelavic can rediscover his goalscoring touch and most Blues will hope he is a success, just not against us obviously.
The deal means Lukaku is now the club's only fit senior striker, though the capture Aiden McGeady (who will take Jelavic's number 7 shirt) does at least offer some offensive options.
Speaking in Tenerife where the squad is enjoying some warm weather training, boss Roberto Martinez confirmed that he was stepping up his hunt for a frontman:
"What is important is that Aiden McGeady arriving has given us a bit more strength in the wide areas and there are many flexible players who can fill in to that number nine position.
"But it (attack) would be an area that we are looking at before the window closes. We are looking at the options to see if there is a player with the right profile who would fit into the squad.
"We agreed the deal and it was down to Nikica to make his decision. I do believe when I spoke to Niki that he was clear that he wanted to join Hull. He felt he would get the opportunity to play the games he needs ahead of the World Cup."
Standard Liege's Michy Batshuayi, Heerenveen's Alfred Finnbogason and FC Twente's Dusan Tadic are some of the name's linked with the Toffees, meaning it could be an eventful few days leading up to the transfer deadline.
