The BBC is reporting that two of Roberto Martinez's former players at Wigan Athletic are close to joining him at Everton. Striker Arouna Kone and defender Antolin Alcaraz are set to join the Toffees with negotiations between the clubs for Kone moving forward despite various reports that talks had stalled over compensation.
As for Alcaraz, the Paraguayan defender is out of contract with the Latics and will join Everton on a free transfer. The 30-year-old central defender was a regular in the Wigan side making 68 appearances over three seasons. His signing should becoming official in the coming days and he'll provide Everton with some much needed depth alongside Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin.
Wigan's new manager Owen Coyle told BBC Five Live Radio that Kone had expressed his desire to make the switch to Everton. Kone joined Wigan from Levante last summer and seems intent of sticking with Martinez. The 29-year-old Côte d'Ivoire striker made 33 appearances for Wigan last season, scoring 11 goals.
