Merry Christmas from Royal Blue Mersey

Throughout December the club has made it’s presence known across the city, bringing a bit of festive cheer to those more unfortunate than ourselves.

There was the annual trip to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, something repeated by Liverpool and other football clubs across the land.

Leon Osman made a surprise visit to a Primary school, Steven Naismith once again sponsored the annual Christmas lunch for homeless charity Whitechapel, something he then repeated up in his native Scotland. Meanwhile Ross Barkley and Phil Jagielka helped a city-wide campaign to provide disadvantaged children with gifts to open on Christmas day.

There has also been the successful ‘Blue Crimbo’ series of events organised by the club’s media department, culminating in a week’s worth of surprise visits by Everton players in ordinary streets across the city as well as the fantastic YouTube video featuring the squad, management and back room staff (see below).

These events really sum up the feel-good factor that is swirling around the club at present, much of it inspired by the summer arrivals of Roberto Martinez and Alan Myers.

Myers returned in the summer to head a media department he originally helped to set up in the late 1990s, with his first task the thorny issue of the new badge.

That was handled quickly and successfully, allowing Myers to move on and re-build a PR department that had often been guilty of shooting itself in the foot in recent years.

But even a passionate Evertonian like Mr Myers has to answer to someone, and in Martinez Everton have the perfect figurehead.

As well as proving to be a gifted and astute football manager, he is also a true gentleman who appears keen to engender a culture of enjoyment as much as ambition throughout the whole organisation.

It helps that the team are producing results on the pitch, but you do get the impression that everything at Everton is looking rosy right now.

Looking ahead to 2014 and next May will mark RBM’s fourth anniversary in what looks set to be it’s most thrilling year yet, with Everton flying high and a World Cup in Brazil to look forward to in the summer.

But all that is for the future, for now we wish you all the best for the festive season and a prosperous 2014.
