Looking Ahead: Everton in September 2012

A brief preview of the upcoming games Everton have in September across all competitions.

With what could be called a quite successful August in the bag, here's what Everton can look forward to in the month of September. If you missed this previously, this segment looks ahead at the upcoming schedule on a monthly basis. Everton end August with six points from two fixtures, and in 3rd place in the Premiership. They are also through to the third round of the League Cup with a minimum of fuss.

Everton start off by traveling to the Hawthorns for a Premier League game against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday 1st September. Amazingly enough, this is actually going to be a top-of-the-table clash with Albion in 4th, two points behind Everton after thumping Liverpool 3-0 at home and drawing 1-1 at Tottenham.

Next up will be a home fixture as 9th place Newcastle come visiting. The Magpies haven't started their season off with a bang and will bear bitter memories of their last trip to Goodison at the end of last season. Everton won that game 3-1 to ensure no Champions League football at Tyneside this year. This is another Monday Night Football game for Everton, on September 17th.

The Toffees then travel to Wales to take on Swansea in the early game on September 22nd. If both Everton and the Swans keep up their winning ways, this will be another top-of-the-table match. This should be a mouthwatering clash as these two are playing some of the best football from a team outside the top four.

Sandwiched in between the two Saturday games is a third round League Cup fixture on September 25th, as Everton travel to Championship side Leeds United, breaking their amazing streak of ten straight Cup games they were drawn to play at home.

To round off a hectic month, Southampton come to Goodison on Saturday, 29th. The Saints return to top-flight football has not been a good one, though they did almost embarrass the defending League champions Manchester City on the road.
