ToffeeLinks 17/12/2012: The Fellaini Ban

The big story today (the only story really) is the Fellaini headbutt and the potential ban he is facing today.

Paul Thomas

There aren't really that many stories about Everton other than the Fellaini "Incident" and the potential ban that he is facing. So here are those links:

Everton's Marouane Fellaini apologises for headbutt on Ryan Shawcross | The Observer
"Marouane Fellaini apologised after admitting he headbutted Ryan Shawcross during the 1-1 draw at Stoke"

Everton's Marouane Fellaini facing suspension of at least three games | ESPN.co.uk
"Marouane Fellaini is facing a minimum three-game ban for headbutting Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross during Everton's 1-1 Premier League draw on Saturday."

-- We all knew it was coming. Some people are saying he could receive nine matches which would be pretty ridiculous. But I can understand 3-5 matches.

Marouane Fellaini headbutts Shawcross: Everton's Distin accuses Stoke of wrestling at set-pieces - Mirror Online
-- I think Stoke's extremely physical play and the ref refusing to protect the Everton players frustrated players like Fellaini and Jelavic. No excuse for Fellaini's conduct. I was especially disappointed with Fellaini even before the incidents because he seemed to give up when any Stoke defender was grabbing or pulling him. It was obvious from the beginning that they were going to be very physical and it got into Fellaini head and he pretty much gave up.

I also thought it peculiar that there was no retaliation for any of these Fellaini incidents. I can't really speculate as to why there was no retaliation. Maybe Shawcross is just a great and calm player. Maybe he accepted it because he himself was being egregiously physical himself. Either way, I thought it was weird.
