Everton visit Werder Bremen for their penultimate match of the preseason.

Werder Bremen finished the Bundesliga in a disappointing 13th place after qualifying for the Champions League the year before. Recently, they were upset in the German Cup by third-tier side Heidenheim.

WB definitely has lost some of their luster from their Champions League season (and losing Mesur Ozil to Real Madrid), but the squad is still no pushover. They have many talented players including the defensive stalwart Mikael Silvestre, two dynamic wingers in Aaron Hunt and Marko Marin, and two prolific strikers in Markus Rosenberg and Claudio Pizarro.

WB tend to have a very open style of play so we can probably expect so see some goals today. That's always a good thing because it brings confidence to the strikers, a position where confidence is extremely important.

The matches scheduled this preseason are very important. The club did a wonderful job of scheduling teams that have vastly different playing style and are also in different leagues (and countries). Hopefully, it will translate to a better start to the campaign than last season.

I will leave you with this excerpt which I found on Everton's website. I thought it was pretty interesting/funny.

The club was founded on 4 February 1899 by a group of 16-year-old schoolchildren, who had won a prize of sports equipment to set them on their way to initiating what is now one of the Bundesliga’s biggest clubs.
