Everton 2 West Ham 2

My knowledge of this game is limted as I spent the weekend abroad and therefore away from internet or TV access.

After eagerly checking the score upon my return though, I kinda wish I was still blissfully unaware......

From reading various match reports and this site's gamethread it appears we were a little lucky to even claim a point against the Premier League's BOTTOM side.

The improvement in performances in recent weeks has once again been wasted as we yet again struggled to break down a side we were expected to beat.

David Moyes hit the nail on the head when he discussed the Spurs result, saying that because they came to attack Everton, the Toffees could fight fire with fire and get at them too.

But sides who sit back and hit on the counter seem to have more success, hence our struggles at home to the likes of Wigan, Wolves, West Brom and now West Ham.

It's not good enought to keep relying on our away form and matches against the top sides to bail us out of trouble.

Our sloppiness at home is dragging us into a relegation battle and should we lose to Chelsea in the cup next week, all enthusiasm for the rest of the campaign will drain away dramatically.

Moyes HAS to bring in a striker before January. Our squad was weak enough as it is but with the Yak and Pienaar departed it is even thinner. The team is stale, laboured and low on confidence, simply a new face may give the players an extra spring in their step.

Demba Ba won't be Goodison bound though. The Hoffenheim striker has joined West Ham instead, another sad inditement of our current position.

The one positive? A goal for Diniyar Bilyaletdinov. As Sibi said in this excellent piece on the Russian he has a chance to stake his place in the side now Pienaar has left. His goal was well taken, especially as it was on his wrong foot. As one of our major signings we need him to keep that up in the coming weeks.

The performance of Fellaini was encouraging too, though if he is pushed upfront again in the coming weeks the quality of our football will nosedive. His presence up top just encourages the likes of Phil Neville to lump high balls into the box. But given results so far if it proves effective I suppose we should stick with it.
